Exhibition… Must See !
JUERGEN TELLER: Woo!
A new exhibition held at the “Institute of Contemporary Arts” in London, opening next week on January 23. The showcase will feature some of the influential artist’s most recent bodies of work.
I consider him one of the most important photographers of his generation, Jürgen Teller is one of a few artists who has been able to operate successfully both in the art world and the world of commercial photography. This exhibition will provide a seamless journey through his landmark fashion and commercial photography from the 90s, presenting classic images of celebrities as well as more recent landscapes and family portraits.
I am sure it will be a lot of fun and inspiring to see his best works of the last two decades!
Jürgen Teller was born in Erlangen, Germany in 1964. He studied at the Bayerische Staatslehranstalt für Fotografie in Munich, and has lived and worked in London since 1986.
Other highlights include several candid images of Kate Moss in bed at the Ritz after her 25th birthday and behaving like a true rock star in Ronnie Wood’s recording studio. “She is a free spirit, she enjoys being photographed,” he says of the supermodel. “We are both open-minded and enjoy each other’s company. I let her be her; I have ideas; she tries things out; we play around – we have fun taking photographs.” Juergen Teller
Teller’s provocative interventions in portraiture subvert the conventional relationship of the artist and model. Whatever the setting, all his subjects collaborate in a way that allows for the most surprising poses and emotional intensity. Driven by a desire to tell a story in every picture he takes, Teller has shaped his own distinct and instantly recognizable style which combines humour, self-mockery and an emotional honesty.
